Community Guidelines

UPTOGOOD is for GOOD. Please respect this spirit.

It’s all in the name! UPTOGOOD was created to create more GOOD in the world. Please respect this spirit as you host campaigns and engage with the community.

We will attempt to spell this out for you here in our Community Guidelines, but it really comes down to a simple question as you consider whether your campaign or engagement with UPTOGOOD meets our Community Guidelines: Does my campaign or engagement inspire or make a contribution towards making a positive impact in the world? If you can authentically answer yes to this question from your heart, you, your content, ideas, and engagement belong in our community. We welcome you with open arms. If not, bye Felicia.

Our goal for the content on UPTOGOOD is to be powerful and inspiring enough to move people to want to take the core UPTOGOOD actions: FUNDit, SIGNit, PROMISEit, SHAREit, for social good. Thus, please bear that in mind when you consider the type of Impact Story (video) to center your campaign around. We welcome short form content (think few minutes long) as well as long form (think theatrical length), but we want content on UPTOGOOD to have enough bite for people to authentically connect with your cause and tug at hearts. We want to avoid fluffy pieces of content with little nutritional value.

We get a bit more specific below on what is acceptable, and what is not.

No tolerance for intolerance

UPTOGOOD is a place for the good-hearted. Therefore, we won’t tolerate intolerance in our community. Intolerance has a tricky definition depending on whom you ask. We are not saying that you cannot disagree with a viewpoint or an idea, nor are we saying that you cannot attempt to show someone how their ideas may be wrong. Tolerance to us here means that every person is treated with respect and civility no matter what his/her view. Basically, bigots are not welcome here at UPTOGOOD.

Intent matters. UPTOGOOD campaigns should be intended for GOOD.

Intent and context matters when you are creating campaigns and contributing content on UPTOGOOD. We only want GOOD intentions on UPTOGOOD. For example, it may be effective to appeal to your supporters to fight against sex trafficking by showing imagery of nudity or sexually explicit content in its context via a documentary. Content like this would be allowed with proper intent. Gratuitous content, simply showing sexually explicit imagery for example, would not be. If the imagery depicted in your content is particularly disturbing, please make an attempt to warn your viewers in your description and help them understand why they may be seeing the content in the story you are telling.

  • Content that is gratuitously sexual or pornographic
  • Gratuitous nudity, pornographic content and sexually explicit content without context and intent to inspire positive social impact are not welcome on UPTOGOOD.
  • Content that is gratuitously violent or graphic
  • Gratuitously gory, violent, and graphic content without context and intent to inspire positive social impact are not welcome on UPTOGOOD.
  • Content that encourages hate
  • We hate hate. We believe in preserving your liberties and your right to express yourself freely even if your opinion was in the minority or unpopular. However, content intended to provoke hate and violence against a person or group on the basis of attributes such as gender, ethnic origin, religion, race, disability or sexual orientation are not welcome on UPTOGOOD.
  • Content that encourages harmful or illegal activity
  • Content that incite others to commit acts of violence, or gratuitously encourages dangerous or illegal activities are not welcome on UPTOGOOD.
  • Defamatory, libelous, slanderous content
  • Any intentional and malicious false communication claiming to be fact (and not clearly identified as an opinion) that harms a person’s reputation, or induces disparaging, hostile opinions against a person is prohibited on UPTOGOOD. Just don’t be a liar.
Don’t’ be a jerk.

No one likes a jerk. Just don’t be one. Specifics below.

Spam comments, video and messages

If you think most people would not want to see your content, comments or messages, likely it’s spam and we don't want it on UPTOGOOD. Please refrain from posting repetitive, irrelevant, unwanted campaigns, videos, comments, and messages via UPTOGOOD.

Offensive, profane, vulgar, obscene, or inappropriate language.

Keep it classy. We want UPTOGOOD to be a pleasant place. People will be more open to hearing what you have to say when you express yourself with dignity and class. UPTOGOOD is no place for you to exercise your potty mouth.

Misleading, deceptive content

Please make sure your copy, campaign cover photo (and video thumbnail), profile image, descriptions and other metadata reflect the nature of your campaign, the content in your video, or your profile. If you attempt to scam, deceive, deliberately mislead or bait users, you are clearly up to no good and not welcome on UPTOGOOD.

We are issue agnostic.

We recognize that there may be many polarizing issues with varying opinions and perspectives on UPTOGOOD, just like in the real world. UPTOGOOD encourages people to actively seek to learn, grow and being open to changing your stance on important issues for the better. We believe that it is important for UPTOGOOD to be an open platform that respects and allows varying opinions to co-exist. Therefore, UPTOGOOD attempts to be as agnostic and neutral on issues as much as possible to make the greatest impact. We may very much disagree with a viewpoint or message. However, it would be setting a dangerous precedent by making polarizing attempts at being the authority or gatekeeper on what is deemed right and wrong by disallowing campaigns we may personally disagree with. We can’t know everything - and we are at least smart enough to know that! We know many issues are not black and white and the nuances at hand may not always be readily apparent. We can’t promise to always get it perfectly right, but it’s our promise to you that we’ll be doing our very best to bear these principles in mind as we make any decisions for UPTOGOOD. Also, we advise you to keep an open mind. We know that you, as a member of our community, are able to make up your own minds about important topics by learning from others and exposing yourself to varying viewpoints within the community. After all, that’s why we created UPTOGOOD!

It’s good to respect copyrights.

UPTOGOOD respects artists and content owners’ rights. Hence, UPTOGOOD has adopted a policy to respond to alleged infringement notices that fully comply with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998 (“DMCA”).

All Campaign videos must have attribution crediting the creators and rights holders. UPTOGOOD presumes that you are the rights holder of the content, and/or you have permission from the rights holder, if you are using the video as part of your Campaign. Don’t forget to review the terms and conditions of the source platform as well (ie: Youtube and Vimeo). Make sure you’re not accidentally infringing on anyone’s copyrights.

If you believe that your copyrighted work has been infringed upon and is accessible via UPTOGOOD, please let us know! The DMCA states that a valid complaint must be made in writing, to our copyright agent, and include all of the legal stuff below:

  • Identification of the work/material being infringed.

  • Contact information about the notifying party (the Notifying Party), including name, address, telephone number and email address.
  • A statement that the Notifying Party has a good faith belief that the material is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or law.
  • A statement made under penalty of perjury that the information provided in the notice is accurate, and that the Notifying Party is authorized to make the complaint on behalf of the copyright owner.
  • The Notifying Party's physical or electronic signature.

UPTOGOOD may also, at its sole discretion, limit access to its service and/or close accounts of any Campaign Hosts that infringe on any other intellectual property rights, regardless of previous infringements.

Help us keep our community GOOD!

UPTOGOOD asks for the community’s help in policing our community. Our team does its best to take down videos that do not meet our Community Guidelines, but we also appreciate the community effort. So, if you see something, say something. If you feel like it just doesn’t fit, flag it by clicking “Report this Campaign” in the info flyout on the Campaign Page. You can find the info flyout at the bottom right of the campaign cover photo. Our team will take a look, and make sure it’s in alignment with our Community Guidelines. And if it’s not, we’ll contact the Campaign Host and get it squared away.

You can report a user profile as well if you find anyone trolling or acting inappropriately. We are all for people disagreeing and having healthy debates. But, please try not to embarrass yourself in the process. UPTOGOOD is for mature, polite people only, with good intentions. No one likes a jerk. We definitely don’t either, and we reserve the right to kick you out of UPTOGOOD if anyone decides to keep it up.

The UPTOGOOD team will be listening to your feedback and doing its best to make the best decisions to create and maintain a community that will generate the maximum good for our world. That might mean, contacting a Campaign Host or a user and giving them a warning, or suspending a campaign or an account.

Please say something if something doesn’t feel right and you think we should know about it. Contact us here, and please remember to include enough information (like links and offending remarks) to help us take the right course of action efficiently. Thank you for being part of the community!
