Hello all,

So, I've been thinking something lately. After doing this wonderful campaign work, I feel a need to communicate to you all something that I believe is so crucial to the work that UPTOGOOD does day in and day out:

The real power in being UPTOGOOD is the willingness to start anywhere -- so long as it is something you believe will make a positive impact, however big or small.

For those of you who are seeking advice on how, when, or what to host for an impact story on UPTOGOOD, I can assure you that no platform makes it easier, more enjoyable and more possible than UPTOGOOD. My time as an ambassador for this organization emboldened me to be the change I strongly wished to see in this world. I'm overjoyed to have been granted the catalyst to do so, and I'm grateful for the resources provided by the team at UPTOGOOD.

If you are seeking more guidance on this or other things involving this organization, please feel free to contact me at kelly@uptogood.org

That's all for now, folks! Take care.

Kelly

And we're back!

Hello, friends! If you wondered why this campaign was offline for a couple of weeks, it was due to a couple of technical glitches. I can assure you now that we are up and running and more than welcome to your continued support.

If you haven't yet, I invite you to take ten seconds out of your day to:

breathe,
be grateful for something wonderful that may have happened today, yesterday, last week, last month,
and find it in your schedule to share this campaign just one more time. That's it!

By sharing this campaign, you are helping ensure that a new pair of eyes gets to know how they can help empower the next generation of talented female Afghan journalists. Just by clicking SHAREit for Facebook or Twitter or wherever it is on the interwebs you would like to bestow this campaign, you are helping make the field of international journalism a much more representative place -- a place where EVERY human story matters.

That's all for now. I look forward to our continued collaboration.

Sincerely,

Kelly Kimball

Hello all,

Welcome to the Sahar Speaks UPTOGOOD platform! I am so grateful for your interest in ensuring that all voices in the press are heard.

Before we talk about your role in this initiative, I first want to tell you something:

SAHAR SPEAKS IS TRULY UNIQUE.

It is one of the only programs of its kind to produce high-quality journalism from Afghan female correspondents in a global media outlet through world-class training and mentorship.

Imagine you lived in a country undergoing immense political and cultural change, but only foreigners and members of the opposite sex were reporting on it. Sahar Speaks is working to directly address the systemic silencing of talented and driven Afghan female journalists, one story at a time.

This initiative has already gone through its pilot year, where a competitive group of 10 journalists received training in Kabul in reporting on a range of women’s issues, using social media, pitching, writing and editing, conducting interviews, creating multimedia stories and promoting the story. There was also an educational session on how to overcome cultural perceptions of the woman’s place in the work force, including how to address harassment.

After the training, each participant had a mentor who guided them to produce innovative coverage of the complex issues facing women in Afghanistan today. These mentors were foreign female correspondents from around the world who continue to volunteer their efforts towards this cause.

A networking hub was also established online, where participants, potential candidates and mentors can engage in a safe environment. Each participant was also paid, and their work was published in the Huffington Post.

WITH YOUR HELP, SAHAR SPEAKS CAN TRAIN MORE WOMEN AND CONTINUE THIS PROGRAM CYCLE FOR YEARS TO COME. IN ADDITION, THE WORLD WILL CONTINUE TO HEAR AND READ AFGHAN WOMEN’S STORIES, IN THEIR OWN WORDS, THROUGH THE POWER OF THE GLOBAL PRESS.

Each dollar will go to the following aspects of this initiative:
$25 transports one Sahar Speaks participant to training for a week
$50 pays for a safe space in Kabul to train female journalists for a day
$100 pays for an Afghan female journalist/photographer to work for a day for a major news outlet
$500 goes towards a much-needed stipend for a Sahar Speaks participant

From the Sahar Speaks website: “An entrepreneurial news project, Sahar Speaks will ideally serve as a model that can be enlarged and replicated in the future.”

I look forward to working with you all to help make the foreign media a much more authentic and representative place.

Sincerely,

Kelly
